What Do I Do If I’m Having Trouble Finding A Medical Provider After a Crash?

Hi. I want to talk today about an issue that comes up quite frequently with our clients after car accidents: they are having a tough time, and finding a medical provider, including doctors who will see them after a car accident, becomes difficult. And this can often include their Longtime primary care doctor, and many of these clients are just shocked to find out that their doctors won’t see them. And I want to explain, you know, why that is. 

And then also some good news that there are alternatives, to this that will allow these people to get medical treatment first.

Doctors are often reluctant to see patients after car accidents because they do not want to get involved in a lawsuit. The doctor understands that there’s a possibility that if he treats someone that’s in a car accident, he may be called to testify. And of course, that takes him or her away from seeing patients.

So, that’s one reason. Another reason is, the doctors understand that being involved in a lawsuit can increase paperwork that has to be produced as a result of subpoena. And depositions on written questions, that come up during lawsuits, and this just puts more work on the doctor’s staff. So, I know that it can be incredibly frustrating that you’re not able to see your doctor in the aftermath of a car accident.

And the good news is not all doctors do that. Of course, there are many doctors in Houston and throughout Texas that are more than happy to treat people who have been injured in car accidents. we’ve worked with many of these doctors over the years and we’ve referred our clients to them, and they’ve done a wonderful job of helping our clients to heal from their injury.

So another thing to know is that many of these doctors and other medical providers, such as physical therapists and chiropractors will agree to see patients, as long and as often as they need to and wait to be paid for the services they provide until the lawsuit resolves. And so that’s a tremendous benefit to many of our clients who unfortunately don’t have health insurance or can’t afford to pay copay.

They can get the medical treatment that they need, without having to come out of pocket. Many people, just in the aftermath of a car accident, are out of work and they can’t afford to pay the doctors for every visit. So there are doctors, there are medical providers that will work, with you.
