About Kelly E. Cook
Born in a small Appalachian town in West Virginia, as the son of a police officer, Kelly had a strong desire for justice and the law from an early age. He attended George Washington University, earning his B.A. cum laude in Classical Humanities as an Honors Scholar. He was also awarded the University’s Elton Prize for the highest achievement in the study of Classical Greek. Upon graduating from high school, Kelly went to George Washington University Law School, where he would hone his legal skills prior to becoming one of the most successful Houston personal injury attorneys.
Initially, Kelly practiced as a member of a large personal injury firm. It wasn’t long after being admitted to the bar that Kelly tried his first case. Throughout the course of his career, Kelly has handled various cases, including but not limited to auto accidents, slip-and-fall injuries, and workers’ compensation claims in Maryland and Texas. Ultimately, it was through these experiences that he assisted in forming Wyly & Cook, PLLC.
As an experienced trial attorney, Kelly has tried dozens of cases before judges and juries and argued before several appellate courts. Kelly is admitted before the state courts of Texas and Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits, the United States Court for the District of Maryland, and the Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas.
It is a point of pride for Kelly that he has been trusted by a number of fellow personal injury attorneys to represent them in legal matters.
Kelly is also proud to have earned the designation of being board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. To achieve this distinction, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient experience practicing personal injury trial law; take courses in continuing education for the practice of personal injury trial law; and pass a written examination that tests your knowledge.

Kelly has demonstrated his dedication to advocacy through all aspects of his career. Notably, Kelly was invited to become a member of the elite American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). ABOTA is exclusive to top trial attorneys and judges. He was also selected by the president of the state bar association to sit on the Texas Disciplinary Rules Committee until it dissolved in 2014. Additionally, Kelly remains active with the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. Previously, Kelly sat on the boards for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association Board of Directors and Advocates Board of Directors. Currently, Kelly sits on the Amicus Steering Committee for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
Kelly is a member of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, where he is a former Vice-President and currently chairs the Amicus Committee and sits on the Board of Directors. He served a term on the Board of Directors of the 7th Amendment PAC, supporting talented and credentialed candidates for the judiciary. He is a member of the American Association for Justice and a Member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.
Kelly’s track record as a leading Houston trial lawyer has earned him widespread acclaim. He is admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States. He has been selected as a Super Lawyer since 2016 and he was named a “Top Ten Attorney” for personal injury by the National Association of Personal Injury Attorneys. He holds a Superb 10/10 rating on AVVO.
Outside the office, Kelly enjoys traveling with his wife and experimenting in the kitchen. For some entertaining stories, ask him about his stint as a professional wrestler.
